It's not a wonder PC's work as well as they do, it's a wonder they work at all. A PC contains components, sometimes from several HUNDRED manufacturers, all adhering to some sort of loose "standard". Better than the '80's, I remember working all afternoon to get a modem to work. Don't even get me started on graphic cards of the day...
